Tufts Medical Alumni Association

RECENT NEWS- TUSM Students Thank Alumni for their generous donations . . .see below for more information.

Tufts Medical Alumni Association

Upon graduation from any of the schools within Tufts University alumni become members of the Tufts University Alumni Association (TUAA), a family of some 80,000 graduates from each of Tufts' eight schools. In addition, all medical school graduates become a member of the Tufts Medical Alumni Association.

Executive Council
The Executive Council of the Tufts Medical Alumni Association(TMAA) is the governing body of the association. The council is responsible for management and allocation of all monies received via voluntary TMAA dues payments. The council also manages all aspects of involvement between current students and TUSM alumni.

Classes from M45-M04 are represented on the council, which also includes regional representation from around the Boston, New York and Washington, D.C. metro regions as well as the West Coast. Council membership ranges from 50-60 individuals, including past presidents and life time members.

TMAA Voluntary Dues
Voluntary dues are collected from alumni each year by the TMAA. The dues are then distributed to address various needs at TUSM as decided by the Executive Council. In recent years, dues paying alumni have helped give over $140,000 to various student and alumni activities, including significant support to student financial aid and the annual Reunion Weekend.

Thank you to those alumni who have participated in the dues process this year.

To contribute your TMAA dues please make your check for $125 ($30 - M03-M07/$75 – M98-M02) payable to Tufts University Medical Alumni Association and send to:

Student Council Allocations

Thanks to the generous donations and continuous support from our alumni, the Tufts Medical Alumni Association (TMAA), we were able to give out over $145,000 in aid to various programs and events. Most specifically, the TMAA was the largest donor to the Fund for Tufts Medicine as well as sponsoring Student Council Activities.

The TMAA Executive Council is proud to announce that with your dues we were able to do something unique for our students. Through the donation to the Student Council, numerous exciting, life- changing trips were taken by our students. Some students traveled nearly half way around the world to do what Tufts is known for- compassionate care, active citizenship and global health initiatives. These amazing trips did wonderful things for people all over the world and mostly gave our students invaluable experience caring for underserved populations.

Please take a moment to view the slide show below which highlights these trips and other ventures made possible by your donation.

“We appreciate your support! Thank you.”

Special Note of Thanks

Dear Tufts Medical Alumni Council,

I just wanted to thank you for the generous grant to support my work with the HIV/AIDS in China earlier this year. It was an incredible experience and continued to broaden my perspective on healthcare, one that includes socio-politics, public health and social equality and justice. This experience strengthened my desire to practice medicine for underserved communities whether home or abroad.

…..I learned also about writing epidemiology papers for the China CDC, and worked with government officials, local and international NGO’s and community members to facilitate research on sex workers and miners in rural China. This was invaluable to develop my research skills, but also learning to collaborate with so many diverse sectors.

Thank you again for your generous support.

Sincerely,
Michelle Wong, M’08
